Current job 'commissioning engineer' in the water industry, basically getting new water works up and running. Ideal job change would be to porn star but hey all the work is in south of England and I live in the north west....maybe that's the job Andy's doing and hes just got soo fed up with trying to perform no Gi :-))

MA career....20 years continuous, started at 16 with kempo-karate for 5 years to 1st dan, then wilderness for a few years just club practice and inviting myself onto any seminars going, then trad JJ for about 7 years to 2nd dan, have been doing judo for about 3 years to blue belt and BJJ for 18 month, white belt 2 stripes....must not forget the stripes;-)

Hey Steve. I've met a lot of people who slate karate outright. I've always thought that any form of martial art will be useful and effective "when push comes to shove". How do you rate the different MA forms you've trained in?

Many years of 'striking practice' and 'blocking practice' as taught in karate classes without doubt works & tones muscle memory to increase hand speed & hand/eye co-ordination.

The conditioning work and practices also toughen the body to inpact delivered by an opponent and prevention of damage to oneself when delivering a block or strike.

Whether the actual stricking method / technique is of any use is debateable (IMO it is of little practical use) and it took me personally quite a long time to 'undo' the tension / rigidity I had trained into my general movement....I am now enlightened and prefer to move off an opponents attack (not getting hit) rather than adopt a rigid stance and tense up ready to absorb the blow.

I currently train Boxing, Kali, JKD,Judo and Brazilian Jui Jitsu.

I find on the whole they complement each other very well but would like to hear what other people think of combining so many martial arts.

It can't be a bad thing, probably hard to find time for them all tho.

Does sound the ideal mix, BJJ on it's own does it for me, not keen on getting dinked on the head! :-))

Injured with a snapped Anterior Cruciate Ligament which I need to have grafted back on in 13 weeks (and counting).

Work as a graphic designer/editorial technician of a leading regional newspaper.

Got a yellow belt in TJJ, but had to give it up.

As soon as I'm able to use my knee properly, I'll be starting Thai Boxing, and I'm very soon starting Royce Gracies's East Anglian BJJ club this side of Christmas.

Currently weight lifting a lot and building myself up, which I've found an excellent program for general strength and muscular size increase which I'm willing to post if anyone's interested!

I'm Marc - tall, dark and - as Meatloaf once said - two out of three ain't bad. Good sense of humour. I like music, football, martial arts, beer, long walks on beaches at night, long walks on short piers, long wanks after many beers. Looking for like-minded females for good times, possibly more.

hello all. im 22. 5ft 7, and about 12 and half stone. proudly had my little girl last sunday 9/11. ironic date, but hey. i have been training in tjj for about six or maybe more months and two weeks ago passed my yellow belt. awesome to get off that white. I truely enjoy it. i have just recently left the british armed forces after five years of service and finding life harshly boring. working as a lorry driver at the moment to bring in the cash. saving up to go to film school next april in london, i know its almost impossible to get work in the film industry, but who cares. ambition keeps me from going insane. well speak to you all soon.

Have you thought about the TA or RNR? A license to print money. With a 5 years in you'd be straight in at £1500 odd tax free bounty after your 2 weeks and 2 weekends each year and if you're in full time education (film school) they can't mobilize you. :-D

i have been thinking about the TA. i do miss doing the job. but i really cant be doing with the bull*h!t. that was the only reason for me leaving in the first place. but two weeks ago all the lads had a party at the barracks and it was awesome to see them all again. plus im sure it would get me out to iraq.something i didnt get to do before i left. another reason for me leaving. but thats probably one of them things i would like to do, but when i would get the chance to do it. il be like, mmmmm, not wanting to be here lol. but i got my commitments now. what is the ta like?

Hi it`s Bee. Remember, the guy you ripped a couple of weeks ago. I`m the bad side of 40 and have been training Ju-Jitsu with the BJJA for almost 2 years. I`m just getting to grips with my Blue belt......Luvin it. My daughter started first with our persuation. I got a couple of free lessons and got hooked. My son who is 16 now trains with me. Great to throw your son around but not so good when he throws you THROUGH the mat. We manage to train 2 or 3 times per week. 1.5 ish hours per session. Although ground fighting is not a big part of TJJ we do a fair bit in training. Great fun....bloody hard work 100% non stop. Respect to you Brazilian practitioners!! Anyway just sorted broadband ( well my son did ) so should be posting more in future. Bee.

Robsco. You sacked TJJ at Brown. If you taught also you can`t have been far off 1st dan. Why did you stop so close to the line.

It got a bit pointless in my eyes, there wasn't anything to prove anymore, it was no big target in the end. I'd started training in BJJ by that point and was concentrating on that, plus teaching the TJJ, so didn't much time for my own training in TJJ anyway.

When ya get to Brown Belt, the belts don't really mean as much anymore.
